ValvTechnologies added to Duke Energy's Nuclear Approved Suppliers List Oct 19, 2009

HOUSTON, Texas - The ValvTechnologies Nuclear team achieved another major milestone by successfully completing an audit of its ASME Section III and 10CFR50 Appendix B nuclear programs.  The audit performed by the Duke Energy Corporation took place in late September and included two Procurement Quality Engineers from their Nuclear Supplier Verification Department and one Senior Mechanical Component Engineer from their Oconee Nuclear Generating Station.  Over the course of four days, the audit concluded that ValvTechnologies processes and procedures are all in compliance with the Nuclear Utility Procurement Issues Committee (NUPIC) checklist.  This checklist covers the 18-point criteria for acceptance as a qualified nuclear supplier.

The audit team submitted their recommendation report to management, who approved ValvTechnologies being added to Duke Energy’s Nuclear Approved Suppliers List (ASL).  This places ValvTechnologies on a very short list of severe service valve manufacturers with the opportunity to supply Duke Energy’s nuclear fleet with valves and components that are in compliance with ASME III Class 1, 2 & 3 and Safety Related Standards.  The report will also be posted on the NUPIC website enabling domestic and international utility members’ access to ValvTechnologies report and for potential use in their approved supplier procedures.  ValvTechnologies requires five utility audits for acceptance.  Duke Energy results are the first of five, before NUPIC organization will place us on their official audit rotation.

Duke Energy currently operates three nuclear sites consisting of seven operating units located in North Carolina and South Carolina.  Additionally, they are very active in the “Nuclear Renaissance” with the potential of three new nuclear plant sites also located in the Carolinas.

This is a major step forward for the ValvTechnologies family.  With the support and assistance from the entire organization, this accomplishment solidifies ValvTechnologies commitment and growth within the nuclear industry.
